Userland and bayly.root
This exchange had no obvious trigger event that I am aware of. My ISP received an email from Robert Bierman, which appeared to be for me, that said I must remove bayly.root from distribution. The tone is best described as officious and intimidating. Note the postscript cc to the Userland lawyers. Once we got the address issue out of the way, I asked for details of what he thought I was shipping. All the emails in this exchange are shown as responses to this thread. It is apparent to me that, Userland doesn't like the idea of me fixing bugs in Manila, mainresponder and Frontier and displaying the solutions on my website. The fact that I do not ship these changes as part of bayly.root or in any other form seems to have escaped someones notice. I do claim the right to fix bugs while I wait for "official" fixes so I can keep my business fucntioning, and I also claim the right to display my suggested fixes as part of fair use of a larger copyrighted work. The one item Mr. Bierman was able to point to within bayly.root, would have been cleared up if he had read the code rather than the comment. Although he claimed " there are many scripts within Bayly.root that are directly taken from UserLand copyrighted code" he was not willing or able to point to any examples. This exchnage terminated as inconclusively as the previous one.
